2. Workers’ eyes may be damaged very quickly by exposure to contaminants when processing vehicles. The first fifteen seconds after an eye injury is critical. The ARA CAR program suggests that eye wash stations be located within 100 feet, or a 10 second walk, of critical work areas.
3. Cleaning of recycled parts is an important part of a facility’s operation, housekeeping and quality-control activity. Proper washing procedures using either solvents or water-based aqueous solution can minimize the amount of contaminants that are released to the environment.
A. wash recycled parts on a contained or indoor impervious surface. b.
Dispose of spent solvent with an authorized processor.
c. Do not dispose of used solvent or wash water on the ground or in a storm drain.
d. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of solvent, wash water, and sludge processing and disposal.
4. ARA Professor says: Commit to your goals, Share your rewards, Energize your team, Communicate all you know, Value your customers, Celebrate your success, Listen to everyone, Deliver more than you promise, work smarter than others, make your own path.
5. Collection data is the easy part. Certainly, having comprehensive data on your customer’s opinion is valuable to your company, but the information is only as powerful as what you do with it.
6. Organizing your work area is the best way to avoid slips and falls. SECURE FOOTING, slip resistant shoes and boots. Consider conditions that lead to slips and falls-such as rain, mud, steep terrain and debris. Always use three points of contact when mounting and dismounting.
7. Perform walk around inspections. Inspections only take a few minutes to complete and are the best ways to prevent mechanical and safety hazards.
8. Level the playing field. It is not the size of your auto recycling facility that matter s. It’s the quality of your technology.
9. Make cleaning your work areas easier. Keep it off the floor, place all equipment on wheels. You can build quick platforms with plywood and wheels to hold smaller equipment and tools (under 50 lbs). It can be easily moved to clean under or to change the work area.
